I am at my girlfriends, and i need to do a water change but i forgot to bring my dechlorinating drops. Is there another way to dechlorinate the water thats safe for the fish? or can i just put it in there and let it sit for a bit since it will be diluted?
Thanks in advance guys!

no other safe way than 2 use dechlol u could leave for 24 hrs and gas it out but that will not remove trace metal that may be present so the answer 2 ur question is no not really dechlol is the safest way

OK thanks and sorry about, i actually found it on her desk. Stupid me

If the tank is 6 months old then there are a number of reports which point towards dechlorination not being necessary.

Correct me if i'm wrong, Andy, but are those reports not geared towards testing the effect on the filter bacteria, and lacking in any research of the effect on the fish.

The effect of chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals on the fish would be something which would certainly concern me.

BTT :good:

although the problem has been solved you can get chlorine out of water by
1) boiling it and then allowing to cool down
2) aerating the heck out of it for an hour or so
3) you can put the bucket of water in the sun and that will break down the chlorine pretty quickly. The chlorine will come out of shallow water quicker than deep water.

None of these will break down chloramine tho and a dechlorinator is needed for that.

As well as the science is the anecdotal reports of members of this forum (ooh_feeshy) and other fora which found the only notable difference in fish having ceased using dechlorinators was that the fish appear brighter.
