How long does it take for a new filter to mature in a tank that has been set up for over a year.

Can you not take some filter media out of the old filter?

I asked something similar a few days ago. Im getting a new fluval FX5 for a 600l tank and am currently running eheim external. If i run the matured eheim in a new tank and also the fluval with the new media, will it quicken up the process of maturing the FX5 media and by how much??

i wouldnt of thought it would speed up, i'd imagine it just means that you arnt going to have cycle again with daily water changes etc.
