this morning i was feeding the axolotl some prawns, he really enjoys them, then i looked over at my goldfish and wondered if they would like it. i dropped a bit in and they went for it like they would with flakes or pellets.

the main question is... is this ok to feed them? i was thinking this may be too much protein for them?

I won't feed anymore until i get a solid answer.

please let me know!!

It would be ok to feed the goldfish some finely chopped up prawns but it is a very high protein food for them so would make the fish produce quite high ammonia poop, so you should do a small water change after the goldfish have been fed  .

Its ok for them, it would be fine to feed them some bits of prawn every now and then to help give them some variety in their diet but not on too regular basis as it could give them constipation since its not the easiest of foods for them to digest and is very high in protein- it would probably be more beneficial to young non-fancy goldfish which are still growing a great deal and benefet from having a fair amount of protein in their diet  .

I agree, I have been feeding my young comets a small amount of chopped prawn once a week since October. They seem to enjoy it and the water quality / fish health has not noticeably declined.
