can a gourami live without filterted water or oxygen if the tank is cleaned every other day?. the tank will hold about 2.5 - 3 gal US. i just want my male guppy to grow his tail back and not be afraid for a while. i think the gourami terrorized the male guppy but am not sure. i just want to see if that helps any. it would be temporary, like a few weeks. the gourami is a dwarf one and is like 2" in length and is male. thanks for the help

Dwarf gouramies breathe air and would drown without access to the surface - so not having any oxygenation is fine. However, dwarf gouramies are particularly prone to disease. Moving yours into an uncylced tank - even with daily water changes - may well end up killing him. If you are having problems with aggression, removing the dwarf temporarily isn't going to do anything but cause you and your gourami stress. Instead, either get another tank and mvoe the guppy out (once you've transferred mature filter media to the new filter so that you get an instant cycle) or consider returning the dwarf to your LFS.

well i actually put the dwarf back into the community tank and everything is fine. i think it was my female guppies tag-teaming on my male and when his tale got shredded it looked like their flake foods, so the guppies and platies tore at the tail. the dwarf gourami didn't even bother him so i think that it was just a fluke that when i added him the guppy got his tail eaten. the female guppies and platies took turns at it. i moved the poor bugger and the guppy is doing fine now.
