Quick Discus Help **emergency**

Thanks kev_kb, I'll stick with just water changes, since the medication doesn't seem to be working lol.

But i just dont want the cory to get used to eating off of the discus. Will they eat the slime coating off of the discus? How would i know? Also, would the slime grow back?

Thanks, the other cories are being normal cories and minding their own business lol :D

Never heard of a Cory eating the slime coat from a Discus. I wouldn't you'd see the damage on the skin if they are doing any.

I would move the cory to another tank if possible or maybe catch it gently in a net when it tries it to see if it learns not to.

Here's another point of view from an experienced Discus owner, not saying other posts are wrong though....

Personally I wouldn't have treated them at all to begin with. If mine show any signs of illness I will do 20% daily water changes with tested good water, eg Ph and hardness etc. I would also ensure the tank is spotlessly clean, planted tanks can work with Discus but they make things harder unless your experienced. I keep mine in a bare bottom tank and always recommend this method.

Ensure the fish get a good varied diet and keep up the water changes for a week or so and see what happens. Oh, and check for bullying and any obstacles in the tank. Discus bolt when spooked and have a habit of crashing into tank decor such as bogwood. Mine have shown white marks after crashing into bogwood and have sulked for a few days but then return to normal.

I wouldn't medicate the tank unless your sure what is wrong with the fish, and you need to be careful with the dose you give when changing water each day too. Oh, and make sure you have plenty of aeration in the tank, with the increased temp and medication oxygen can be reduced.

Good luck with them.

I don't think this is going to help much TBH. He has already had fish die on him, and he says they aren't eating. Obviously something is wrong here, and w/c cannot solve everything, although coupled with medication can probably do wonders. Meds to kill the disease, new water to dilute/remove it.

I really think ignoring the problem is going to make things worse. :/

FishHobbyist, of course the medication isn't going to work! You are using the wrong thing. That's like a doctor diagnosing you with Strep throat, and putting you on an anti-fungal medication. It isn't going to do anything...

ok so in total, 2 of them died, and none of the other ones are getting better. This has been going on for so long, and yet they are STILL SICK!!! How is this even POSSIBLE.

This is getting pretty aggravating, and i cant believe that NO mdication can cure this "unknown" disease. I have been giving water changes every day (50%) and I have tried a bunch of diseases. Only 1 of the 4 that are left is sick. All of the other 3 are okay. But this is truly AMAZING how this disease is still here and is not gone from the tank. My ammonia is still 0, my nitrites are still 0, and my nitrates are still around 0-10 ppm.

What else can i do? I feel like there is nothing i can do, except watch my fish die :(

Sorry to hear about your discus, i hope the others recover. Using different medications is not a good idea with discus as they can be sensitive to certain medications. Most of the time it is general water problems, check the ph or kh is not excessively high or low, give them plenty of oxegen and keep the temperature raised slightly to help them. discus wormer plus is a good treatment not just for flukes but general wellbeing of the fish if they are showing signs of illness and water problems are ruled out.
good luck with them
regards Angel

What medication have you given them? Salt and Methylene?

Honestly, I am getting sick of you not taking advice. If you don't treat the tank properly then yes your fish are going to die. Pretty simply put. I could see the other fish getting sick too. This is the last time I am going to post, because it seems like you aren't taking my advice and then crying to all of us about how your fish aren't getting better.

The advice you have given me is "general cure" which doesn't seem to be working.

This general cure has Metro in it (which was one of the parasitical meds you recommended), and it has Copper and Trichlorfon
Since it isnt working, i doubt the disease is parasitical.

Another advice that someone else gave is daily water changes (i do 50% a day) and it hasnt been working.

I have done EVERYTHING you have said DiscusLova, so i cannot believe that you said i have done NOTHING. I'm really sorry if it seems like i am not listening to you. You are one of my favorite discus helpers on this website! You have really great advice, and i have been listening to you 100%

I am doing everything I can for these fish! What else would you recommend?
