hi all, i'm a newbie to this site so firstly i'll say hello :p

i have a few questions if someone wouldn't mind helping me out?

i'm quite new to keeping fish, i got my first tank about 2 mouths ago, it was a juwel 60. having gotton really well with it and me and my girlfriend really enjoy everything involed in keeping fish we have just purchased a juwel 180 tank.
because our flat is quite small we can't keep both going which means if i set up my 180 i wouldn't have time to cycle it fully before the fish are moved over.
i intend on filling the tank with about 50l of bottled water which when i tested has no ammonia nitrate ect, about 30l of my old tank water amd the rest with conditioned tap water. i have also been told that by spiking my new sponges with my mature one this will help fasten up the cycling period!!
has anyone got any veiws on this or any better ideas?

secondly has anyone got any veiws on which is the best kind of substrate i can use?
I have been told that you can get some kind of soil which can be mixed with sand/ gravel with helps breaking down waste and uneaten food which will aid us in keeping the tank clean without having to clean the gravel so often. does anyone know what this stuff is or any kind of simular substance???

thanks nuggims

You could put the old filter in the new tank alongside the new filter, and all of the water from old tank into new tank. Then i believe everything should be ok.

please correct me someone if i am wrong

will put old filters together thanks
have you got any advive on what is the best and easyist to keep clean substrate i can use?
