Morning all,

Need a quick couple of questions answered.

The tank below is the setup I have.

I only have two fish in there as it's still cycling.

Question one is the following: Over the last 2-3 days a yellow tinge has formed on top of the white silica sand. Now I am thinking this is because the sand is not being disturbed. If this is the reason will it be ok when I get some Cories in there to turn it over? Or could there be another reason??

Question 2- The last day or so the the water has turned really cloudy. Now I've noticed when the water level has got lower the water pouring in from the right at the top from the spout after it's been filtered through has been hitting the sand so I am thinking it's throwing up all the sand and making the tank cloudy. You think this could be the problem or could it be something else.

Question 3 - One last one, are tanks with sand in meant to be slightly cloudy or crystal clear?

Thanks

When you first add sand, the silt in it will cause the water to become cloudy. The filter should take this out, although i have a tank which i think is the same as yours, and the filter isnt that great for this. If you can, add some filter wool in the filter somewhere, maybe where the heater is, and that will help to remove the silt and give you clearer water.

Could the colouring in the sand be due to algae? Where abouts it is happening? If it's in a dead area with not much water movement then it could be algae.

I've put some wool where the heater is and also in the left hand said above filter so will see how it goes.

The yellow tinge is across the surface of the sand. It's not being disturbed though so maybe when I get some cories in there it might sort it.
