Hey all, just wondering where all my fellow American plant keepers get their plants?

Local Shops
Big Chains (Petsmart, Petco, etc)
Internet/Mail Order

Reason I ask is cause while my local shop has some very healthy plants, their selection leaves a lot to be desired. Any suggestions or comments you have on where to buy is always appreciated, thanks guys

i get all of mine off of the net. it is so much easier, plants are a lot cheaper, but yuo still have to factor in the cost of shipping. the only place ive bought from is aquaticplantdepot.com. their plant selection is very good, however though, if you have a problem with anything do not expect them to reply in any emails that you send them. but thats just my opinion on them.

AquariumPlant.com has a pretty good reputation amongst US members. There are a couple of other sources in the pinned topic.

(Aquariumplant.com is an excellent online vendor IME)

The trouble with getting them online is the shipping cost. If you're only after one or two plants, you have to decide wether it's worth the $10 shipping cost. Generally LFS/Chain Stores have very little quantity, quality, and choice of plants.

Recently I've been getting alot of plants either free (just pay shipping costs), or cheap, or trade from other planted tank owners. This is my preferred way to do it.

I get all my plants from 2 stores near me. One is a smaller chain - Big Als, and the other is Super pet. I have bought some off of aquabid before though. That went well.

It helps if i read... I'm in Canada.

until recently I have gotten mine from a LFS who has a pretty good selection, though I had no idea what I was getting or doing. I managed to grow algea quite well though. Ha Anyway, thanks to help from this site and one or two people who have taken me under their wing... my tank is lookin pretty good! I have been getting Pseud's rejects. If you read a lot of the threads, these guys seem to tear their tanks down and re arrange quite frequently.

I originally went to the classified section here and that is how I got started, and lots of help also!

What a great group of people!

I have one LFS that supplies me with floating plants for my betta bowls, since they can't really sell them. Occasionally, I will by a plant from them if I don't want to pay for shipping. If I have to do a major aquacaping job or I'm setting up, I use aquariumplants.com. Haven't tried exchanging with friends yet, but that seem to be something to explore when I move back to Miami, FL.

When your buying 20-40 plants, some how shipping doesn't seem so bad.

I've gotten mos of my plants from pet smart actually

they dont always have a grande selecion nor are the plants alaways in the best of shape (you have to sort through the good and bad ones), but I have 4 pet smarts to choose from ( saturated market?) if I cant get anything I'm looking for then I also check some of the local pet shops, but one is really expensive and the other doesnt have really health plants

yeah, I noticed petsmart's selection wasnt all that bad which surprised me a lot. wouldnt have thought a big chain would keep plants like that
