Ok so i have recently set up a aquarium and everything so far is brilliant. I have some questions about the fish i would like to put in.
here is the list of all the fish in my tank so far:
8 Harlequin Rasbora
6 Neon Tetra
6 Cherry barb
5 dwarf cory
I would really like some extra colour and maybe 1 or 2 (at a max 3) really striking looking fish that are really pretty. Someone suggested the German Blue Ram/Cichlid
Otherwise know as the butterfly cichlid?
I have done alot of research on these little guys and i really REALLY want some!!!
I have several questions though. I would prefer to get a pair, male and female and maybe breed them (if i am lucky) but i havent got any other tanks to put them in if this happens. When profiles say that the male can get territorial and aggressive when protecting the eggs how aggressive and territorial are we talking?
Would these be suitable in a community aquarium or would they have to be removed when they breed?
I really do want them. Would it be ok to still have them and just remove the eggs to another place when they breed? Will it make a difference?
Or as a VERY LAST RESULT should i just get one male and thats it?
Would he be ok on his own as the only species in the tank?
Thanks any help is appreciated.
Xx

as far as i know, blue rams have to be kept at a higher temperature, but i might be wrong, someone with more knowledge will let you know

How big is your tank?

German blues need very high temperatures (around 28-29C) and very soft water with a low pH. They are actually a little tricky to keep and there are many fish that would not thrive at those high temperatures.

What temperature do you have your tank at and what are your GH, KH and pH readings for the tank?
