Hi Everyone,

Before I ask my question, here is a description of my tank:

28 gallons
80 degrees temp
2 gouramis
2 red platies
1 black molly
1 Albino Pleco
1 live plant
2 lava rocks

I have currently realized that I am having problems in my tank. The first one, and most critical, I am dealing with my second fish who currently has a swimming bladder infection. The first fish that had this, silver molly, had the infection as well and I waited for 7 days before I decided to euthanise my fish. I am really upset that a second fish is going through the same thing. I checked my water levels BOTH times and they were fine so I know my water conditions are well. This is what I got:

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5-10
pH about 7.6-8

I have a feeling that my flake food is the one to blame for this. I have been researching this and I know it's hard to maintain a good diet for your fish because they are very sensitive. I feed them peas once every few days and I plan on getting bloodworms soon to add that to their diets. I have decided to stop feeding them flakes so my question is what type of pellet food is great for the fish? I came across omega one and I loved their ingredients. Is anyone using this?

My second problem is that I just lost one of my albino plecos because it got stuck on the filter. Does anyone have problems with this? This is the second fish I've lost due to the filter since I first started my tank. I'd like to know if this is common.

Thanks.

has the tank been cycled? just curious as you say water conditions are fine but your nitrate reading is 0 ????

Hi there,

Yes, my tank has been cycled. Oh, and sorry about the Nitrate. I was typing it fast so I meant to say between 5-10.

AGAIN, SORRY FOR THAT TYPO!

ah thats cool then, cant be that causing the problem then. sure someone will be able to give you some pointers

no worys, you might wanna edit your original post just to stop any more confusion

A varied diet is aways best. Omega one is very good food, as far as flake goes i don't think you would have to stop, but instead get some veggie flake and mix it with the regular flake in a container. a cleaned out margarine tub works well, or any cheap plastic container.

This way with every feeding they get a variety, and the veggie keeps them regular. (i use this method and have for years with no problems). Try this with the Omega One.

Then feed something different once or twice a week like bloodworm's. fasting/not feeding once a week is also good. Try not to overfeed.
