im thinking about making my 175L a blue ram tank and im also interested in breeding them to sell at work. if i put say 4 males and 8 females in there will they breed or is it better just to have one male and two females. id rather a large number in there rather than just a few fish swimming around a huge tank :) i currently have 8. 2 males and 6 females in my community tank but im thinking of selling my tetras etc at work as my likes and dislikes are changing :)

also would it be best to have no sucker fish etc in there so they dont eat the eggs or do the parents protevct them enough from them?

thanks in advance :)

Remove all sucker fish, they'll grab the eggs at night. As for the male and female numbers, Im not quite sure. But I would do 2 males and 2 females, Or 2 males and 3 females. I supose with that much territory for such a small fish it could work.
Add lots of slate, plants, caves and nooks and crannies.

Heres a pic of a paired blue couple.

hey youre from brisbane!!! where do you get your slate, rocks from etc we have none at work and i cant find any so ive just got a lot of ornaments etc that are kinda suitable but slate would be cool for my africans as well :good:

one couple has paired off but i dont think there are any shenanigans going on :)

Lol, I like that word shenagngans or howver you spell it. I just get my slate and rocks from walking to school. Because I live in a bushy, new area. Lots of great garden work has been done so I just pcik up some rocks or whatever and pop 'em in my bag and then when I get home clean them using searing hot water and a clean sponge.
With the rocks, if its flat like slate I'll pick up a big peice and throw it into the ground creating lots of other flat peices to use.

Or in turn you could go to a rock quarry and BUY rocks from them. I live about 4 min drive from a huge quarry were I swim and ride bikes.
