I hear people talking about cucumbers in tanks, for what fish are they for and why do you put them in the tank?

Alot of fish like to feed on cucumber. I also feed my fish peas,courgette,and lettuce alongside meaty foods like bloodworm etc. Most of my community fish go mad for all veggie stuff that I put in their tanks. I believe that a varied diet is as good for my fish as it is for my family!!
