I noticed whitespot on most of my fish late on Sunday night (5 days ago now) On monday i turned up the temperature in my tank to 28 degress from 25 and went and bought some Interpet 6. I took out the carbon in my filter and I calculated the dosage and added this into my tank. Today (now Thursday) most of the white spots have dropped off my fish, there was just one or two left this morning.

Questions:-

It says on the bottle of Interpet 6 - that on day 4 add another doseage. Do you know if i should do a water change and gravel rac and then add in some more med. Should i add another full doesage or just half a doesage? I do not want to add to much med in my tank as the whitespot isnt too bad at the moment and i also have corys and some fry in my tank, so i need to be careful not to harm them.

Would "day 4" be today or tomorrow? I added the med on Monday night about 9pm, it is now Thursday at 3pm).

How long should i continue to treat my tank after this dose tonight? and should i add any bacterial med after i have finished treating for whitespot as i have noticed a few of my fish have tatty fins.

Thanks

Hi,

I wouldn't do a water change unless absolutely necessary. Is whitespot not a free swimming organism? Meaning that you have to treat the tank now as they're swimming about (not attached to the fish anymore). Full dose I would go for, blast the blighters.

P.S Today is day 4 if Monday was Day 1.

Just noticed the bit about tatty fins. Have you tested your water? What is your nitrate reading? Maybe do that vac and change after all but before adding the dose of med for the whitespot. If you're going to treat for fin rot I'd wait a couple of days after treating the whitespot, how bad are the fins?

I tested my water last night

Ammonia - mabey 0.1 as it was a very very faint yellow colour but it even looked to faint to be up at 0.1.
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 15ppm

There is only two fish out my whole tank that i have noticed the fins seem tatty. One is a neon and the other is a platy, these were the two that has more white spots than the rest did. The rest seem ok.

PH - 6.5
