I was just kinda curious of how our awesome forums have come about? who made it and why? How did the moderators become the moderators, or were they here from day 1? Just kinda curious of the history of TFF

I wonder if it's pinned somewhere? :D

This is what William said in this: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=104491&hl tread:

Well actually, I did make (ie: install the forum). The initial story of TFF is as follows, there used to be a website: www.tropicalaquariums.co.uk (which does not seem to work anymore) run by someone called "Davy Reynolds"- (same username on here), they had an eZboard web discussion forum, you know the ones with hundreds of popups adverts for viagra and flashing 1 millionth visitor things. Anyway I was quite interested in tropical fish, and there were some like minded people on there, maybe a total of 100, 150 members, although not so many active, the main ones were called adeyc, rose, davy reynolds (of course), and half a dozen others, who I apologise for not remembering their names.

At the time iKonboard- www.ikonboard.com had free forum software, and so upon asking davy about creating a new banner free faster, slicker more functional software he said ok, so I installed it, and me and davy were admins and Rose and adeyc became moderators. The first year was pretty slow, started in january, by july we had over 100 members; http://web.archive.org/web/20020809101654/...n/ikonboard.cgi .

About September me and Davy, had a disagreement over the direction the site should go, and we parted our ways. I definitely regret that, because Davy -although I only knew him virtually- definitely seemed a really good guy. That was September 2002 and the site was now called FishForum.Net and I had upgraded it to Invisionboard (which was created from a splinter of the iKonboard group) was still very much in it's infancy: http://web.archive.org/web/20021017104619/...orums/index.php

In the time members have come and gone, along with moderators, but three years on it's great that some of the original moderators do still remain on the site such as dragonslair, gadazobe and Great Lakes.

Where the forum is today, wow, who could have guessed. Moderators and helpful members have offered invaluable assistance and ensured the smooth running of the website, ultimatedly it is the fish you keep which have led you here and resulted in the success of the site, and it's refreshing that they are the real winners here. Who knows how many fish have been saved by the information provided by people on this website, I would imagine it numbers somewhere in the hundreds if not thousands.
