Hi we just started our tank about 3 weeks ago, then 1.5 weeks into it got 3 starter fish. 2 (i've just now found out) are Golden White Cloud Minnows, and I'm still not sure what the other was. (he was about 1.5 inches long, silver with 2 blue stripes, and had NO eyeballs. I loved him, but he died 4 days after introduction to the tank...petstore said something was wrong with him to not have eyes, but I liked him). I've been researching to find out what can go with my fish, how many I can keep in a 10 gallon, etc.

Here's what I was thinking:

5 more GWCM
2-3 Ghost shrimp
1 alge eater
3-5 Sunburst Platies or Gold Flame Platies (prob a mix of the 2)
And 2-3 Harlequin Rasbora's

Would this work in a 10 gallon? Would they get along (not eat each other?)
feel free to email me

You really will be over your limit with that many fish...

For a ten gallon, I would just have the platies and rasboras... 3 platies and 6 rasboras. For the others, the minnows are coldwater, the shrimp might get eaten, and I believe algae eaters get aggressive as they get older.

Well here are the combinations you could keep. But I would not have all those fish together.
Below are a few of the combinations you could have. Keep in mind that one line, is all that could go in that tank really.

5 sunburst platies and algae eater

5 gold flame platies and algae eater

5 sunburst platies and 3 ghost shrimp

5 gold flame platies and 3 ghost shrimp
OR
4 Rasboras and algae eater

4 rasboras and 4 ghost shrimp
OR
6 total GWCM

4 GWCM and 3 ghost shrimp

4 GWCM and algae eater

Those are just a few ideas. Hope you understand this, if not give me a PM. Good Luck!

id say that is too many fish get, if you could i would scratch four or five off your list. sorry i dont have any suggestions...im still a little new

A 10 gallon tank really isn't suitable for white clouds as they need lots of swimming room and a strog current. For that size tank, 5 or 6 rasboras or similarly sized fish is fully stocked. The ghost shrimp don't put a big strain on the bio-load so you couls add 3 or 4 of those.

be careful of the "algae eaters." Most fish sold under that name are the chinese algae eater, which grow big and mean. They do an okay job of algae control.

Thank you all very much! I was very misled by the 'help' at Petco, but I stopped at this little place called Fin and feather and they seemed to bo on top of it. And the guy in charge even gave me a refund on Eyeless Eddie (even though he died past their policy date). I am aslo already looking into getting another tank! :hyper: ut i think my hubby is going to make me wait until wee get moved out of this tiny apt....we'll se!

usual stocking is 1" per gallon of water not including tails. in a new tank it should take you a while to get up to this point...slwoly adding more fish not all at once. eventually you can have 2" per gallon but that would require heavier filtration and at least 12 months established tank IMO

that definitely would be overstocked for a 10gallon. dont get anymore white clouds and add a couple of platies and a snail or two for the algae. possibly even an otocinclus would be ok :)
