Hi i have tetra optimat i was just wondering if this was any good for feeding plants?
ALso i was looking at a journal ages ago and saw a tank with a plant that spreads across the bottom of the tank.Looks like grass. Any help? I know loads about plants as you can tell lmao.

Thanks,Ben

The tetra optimat is basically a canister of CO2 which I believe you manually squirt into a diffuser a few times a day. It's a bit basic, and perhaps the next step from yeast based CO2. It really depends on how big a tank you are using it on. Anything over 30 litres and I'd consider pressurised CO2 (mind, I'd consider it on below 30 litres anyway)

There are a few plants you might be thinking of, but most likely one of the Eleocharis species, also known as hair grass. Eleocharis Parvula and Acicularis are your more common forground types, as they grow low (about 10-15cm). E. Acicularis can usually be found at garden centres in 2" pots for £3 or £4 quid. One of those pots is enough to do a big tank!

For quality, I'd go to either Aqua Essentials or The Green Machine. They sell tropica plants which are very good quality. Other than this, Ebay, Plants Alive... Google search Eleocharis Parvula or Acicularis and see what you come up with.

Riccia Fluitans - - just found this on plantsalive,it says it can be netted down and acts as a bed on the bottom. Is this stuff easy to grow? and is it good at spreading or will i need to buy as much to cover the bed of the tank.?

Ben.

It needs tieing to an object, it doesnt spread across as much as i think you are wanting it to, It needs high light & CO2 and a good fert, It does well wth N&P. Take a look at the pinned topic at the top of this page and it shows you how to attach it.
