Ok so as every1 knows im setting up my 85 gal tank for african cichlids with sand and was wondering with all the talk of toxic gas pockets what bottom dwelling fish can I get to keep the sand stired but will also get along with african cichlids?

Pretty much any of the Synodontis catfish species work well with African's as do Bristlenose Plecs. You could also consider common Plecs due to your tank size.

I have 2 Synodontis Eupterus and a common Plec in with my Mbuna and never had any issues - The Plec gets his fins nipped occasionally but he gives as good as he gets.

and these will keep the sand stired up to avoid any gas build ups in the tank?

The synos will sift through the sand for food, however your mbuna will do a lot of digging. Theyll move the sand around plenty.
