Hi, I just purchased one about 4 days ago and he seems to be doing well. My tank is cycled and is brakish, yadda yadda. Anyway, right now I am feeding him by hand ( by dropping bloodworms into his cave ) because all the other fish eat everything. I'm concerned when he never comes out during the day. He stays in his cave ALL DAY and just comes out at night when all the other fish are laying low and "sleeping". Is this because he is noctunal or because my other fish are just too crazy?

thanks :)

He will be pretyy inactive until he settles in and stakes out his territory. What else are you feeding him besides bloodworms?

Good point. These fish are said to go wild for live brine shrimp (you get to see them filter feeding!) and don't forget that they need algae as well as meaty foods. Algae wafers should do fine.

Cheers,

Neale

off topic but what salinity should my tank be at for a violet goby? its currently at 1.007. should i work it up to 1.010 slowly?

1.007 is fine, anywhere between 1.005 and 1.010 is best, but it can go even as high as full marine.

mine also gulps air from the top alot.. i checked nitrite nitrates and ammonia, all are 0, but he still gulps air, is that normal?
