Question about Vacation

Im leaving for 3-4 days...i have a 10 gallon with 2 corys 4 ghost shrimp 1 hillstream loach 3 mollys a bunch of plants and a snail...i have a smaller 2.5 gallon with about 8-12 week old molly fry. Will they be alright for 4 days unfed, or what else can i do?

maybe u could get a small weekend feeder and the fry might nibble off it when they get hungry.........if they are large enough

The fry might be a problem the others should be fine for sure. You could try finding a heavily algaed piece of rock plant or gravel to drop in the fry tank before you leave it could help, though chances are they'd be alright anyways.

Fry can find food in unlikely places in an established tank - go, have fun - the fish will be fine. Fasting periods like this are routine in the wild and they can handle it in the tank.

Do a standard 25% waterchange and then feed and that's about it off you go and have some fun.

when we went o/s in january we had one little molly fry in the breeder box inside the main tank, too small to let out & we only had one auto feeder.i floated a couple of small plants in the box that had algae on them & also dropped a couple of small catfish & algae tabs in the fry pen.the pen had a bit of flow through its grids from the main tank filter spray bar. the baby was about 5mm big, we went away for 2 weeks & when we came back she had about trebled in size & looked quite happy, shes now nearly an inch & has been in our main tank for a few months now. i would have preferred to have got someone in to feed the baby but everyone else possible we knew here had also gone away.

we also had a nasty experience with an auto feeder a couple of years ago - it got stuck & our main tank had no food for 2 weeks, all our fish survived but obviously did not look happy & were very hungry when we came home ( we felt TERRIBLE oh the guilt!!! ) but they did survive. not that i would ever ever recommend not feeding for this period as its obviously cruel . but i would recommend throwing some catfish or algae tabs in the fry pen & in your big tank as well. your fish will be fine.
