Ok, so I believe that my sunset platy is pregnant. She got really big and her supposed gravid spot was pink, but now there are little black dots forming in this pink spot, are these the eyes? Im figuring that since she is yellow the babies are somewhat translucent when born and thats why her gravid spot is pink right now, could this be? Translucent as being very light in coloration. Also, I bought some danios for my other tank, but one was eaten right away by the frog, so I put them in with the platies and guppies, will they be eating the fry? They are super small danios, smaller than the guppies, but would they hunt them down and eat them? Im going for the more natural approach to raising the fry, seeing how I would most likely not have a home for ALL of them, so, survival of the fittest I guess.
Oh, and my new male platy hates the female rainbow platy just like the other male does, what is wrong with her and why do they hate her so much? The aggressivly attack her, and the two males dont even do that to each other...

i don't know about the dannios but your other platys will probably eat a bunch of them...my first batch of fry all were eaten by platys so I use a fry tank now for when i can catch fry and then what is left in the main tank can survive or become breakfast...Also, I have same thing with certain colored platys they don't seem to like each other which is why I always try to get at least a pair of each color...my blue mm platys always beat up on my sunset wag tails...

Well, does the black dots indicate the babies eyes, or... is it just wishful thinking? I have been waiting for SO long to have little baby fry, and it just isnt coming soon enough it seems like... im kind of impatient.

Morquinn,

For my platys i swear i waited like over a month and she was lookin prego from 1st day i bought her...she finally had fry last week...try not to get to impatient, she'll drop when she's ready...now as for spots, i've never been able to see or whatever, but I'm told the little spots are the fry eyes and if you can see eyes formed in the mom, she's gonna drop soon...you might wanna do more frequent water changes, make sure temp, stats, etc. are all fine and that she's not stressed...since i have a lot of pregos I bought a fake plant mat to put at the bottom of my 55 that way she could hide in there or in caves and give birth without a hundred fish all over her...good luck!!

I had major tropical disaster about a month ago and all I rescued was a female platy black and white specky sort. When we stripped the tank out we found an unidentified baby. So the 2 are swimming round quite happy in a small tank now..and I could put a betta in..sorry off topic...have been watching the female and she is very fat,and she has a white spot underneath. Is she just eating too much, please dont say she is pregnant as she hasnt been near a male platy for about 4 weeks.
