Question about phosphorus

Just wondering if high levels of phosphorus can kill fish?
I know it will add to algae problems, but will it harm or worse yet kill a fish?

Well, I did a little research and this is what I came up with:

Phosphorus is not toxic and will not kill your fish.
What Phosphorus can do is, lower oxygen levels in your tank, leaving your fish short of breath, ultimatly killing fish.

Any input?
Am I wrong, close or completely confused?
