i was just curious, how would you feed your fish in the winter when the pond is frozen?

either dont feed them or feed them whaet germ food. you have to break a hole in the ice so the gasses inside dont build up anyways.

you have to break a hole in the ice
 not recommended the vibration isnt good for the fish melt a hole in the ice with warm water and keep feeding down to a minimum, also make sure you make sure pump attachments are disconnected as if the pond freezes the water will pump out and drain the pond

What you do is you fill a pot with hot wter and set the pot on the ice. If you pour on the water and the ice is even remotely thick the water disperses and ends up freezing makeing the ice thicker. Also the fish need to have built up a layer of fat over the summer any fish that lives in freshwater shouldn't eat at temps below 50 degrees f if you feed a goldfish or Koi at low temps the food will rot in there gut and kill the fish.

u dont really even need to feed them. my fish go thro winters not being fed. mine dont even come out during the winter. how cold is it were u live in the winter? ice really shouldnt freeze were water flow is

Goldfish go into a state of hibination in winter and can survive easily on the food in the pond naturally. When the temperatures pick up abit it is worth feeding some Wheatgerm. But if you feed normal foods in the cold wheather they expand in the stomach of the fish if it is eaten and cause death.

Ive had my fish for 4 years now. Ive had no problems threw the winters, and yes i live in the northeast and it gets COLD. I dont feed my fish in the winter. I use a ice melter for ponds to keep the gases out.

We don't feed during the winter, our water flow keeps going and we place balls in the ponds so we can just remove them to leave a whole everynow and then.
