Originaly when I set up my 55 gallon I was running 2 hob filters, a Penquin 330 (bio wheels) and a Top Fin 60 (came with the tank). It seemed like the Top Fin's filter pads always had more gunk on them then the Penquins. I recently added a 75 gallon tank to my zoo and moved the Top Fin 60 filter to it as well as a new Emperor 400 filter. Lately it seems like I'm having to clean the filter pads about every 3 days on the Top Fin because they are getting so dirty that water is flowing out around the intake tube (and yes I've cleaned the impeller and pickup tube) but when I check the Emperor it's barely got anything on the pads. So for those of you that run multiple filters on your tanks, do you notice that one of your filters picks up substantially more crud than the other?

Some filters are strange that way. I have mostly Aqua Clears for hob filters. I know that if I just run sponges in them they can go longer between cleanings. If I run floss with the sponges they need to be cleaned more often, I guess they pick up more of the fine particles & get dirty faster.

One that I can't figure out is the 2 20 talls I have. Identical tanks, basically the same stocking, growout for angels. Both have a sponge filter & an AC mini with sponges only. One sits above the other on the rack. The AC on the top tank slows down & needs cleaning more often than the bottom tank.
