This is my first bout with Ich and I have read everything I could find about it but I still have questions.

I have several different species in my planted 28 gallon tank plus shrimp. Only my tetras have Ich and I began treatment with Kordon's Herbal-Ich Attack as soon as I saw little white bumps on them. It has now been about 2 weeks- the fish that originally had Ich still do but no other fish has developed white spots.

How long are the cysts (the white dots) on the fish? Meaning, when they become tomonts do they fall off the fish?

I am assuming that this is the scenario: Since I started treatments at the moment I saw the spots the Ich has not been able to reproduce successfully - thus that is why there is no new outbreaks. The fish with white spots will eventually loose their Ich and after a couple of weeks I can stop medicating with the Kordon's Herbal Ich Attack. Does this sound like a sound theory to you more advanced fish people?

I will not use salt - there are too many conflicting messages on line about how salt will/won't kill plants. Same with raising the temperature.

thanks!

Hi, In my honest opinion, having read the treatment you are using I would ditch it and buy a decent one, as after two weeks any good product would have had visible effects,

Also as you have not raised the temperature that is causing an added hindrance and is not in any way helping the situation.

In order to treat ICK you need get the water parameters perfect before you start treating, then you need to raise the temp to 28C+, Raise the levels of aeration in the tank, and treat with a half decent product, doing waterchanges if and when required based on the results from water tests

For ICH there is nothing better off the shelf than King British WS3, not sure how the shrimp will deal with it though but WS3 is the mutts when it comes to disposing of Ich - maybe you could rehome the shrimp temporarily.

Fully Agree, However from the treatment currently being used i'd guess the OP was based in the USA.

WS3 will kill snails and shrimp btw

Ich stays there, it doesnt full off the fish nor just disappear. It only goes away after the treatment. i would try a different treatment if it hasnt made a differance for 2 weeks. Did you turn your filter off while giving treatment as this might not help the matter. Inch can be rubbed onto plants or rocks. The fish get really ichy and rub agaist things causeing the white spots to come off oh this and cause it to spread this way...
