I was at a fish store the other day and they have some of these neat fish that have eyes above the water. I dont remember their names but they remind me of mud skippers but arnt :p

Anyways there was a description of them saying they were livebearers and that livebearer male fish all have a right or left gonopodium. Only left and rights can breed and vise versa.

I was just wondering if this was true about all livebearers?? A few months ago my only male swordy died so I went out and bought another one but have never seen him breed my 2 female swordies. He guards them and chases them but never have I seen him stick out his gonopodium :*) Last month I decided to get another boy and he's been chasing the girls but hasn't bred with them yet either. I also have 4 female platies and neither of the swordtail boys are interested in them. My black female swordy has only been pregnant once since my original male died and my orange one hasn't been pregnant since he died.

Just wondering if I have mis-matched (right and left wise :p ) swordies and they can't breed?? :dunno:

I miss having lots of fry :-(

I've never heard that about swordies. Your boys may just be young, inexperienced and perhaps a little intimidated by the older females. I know that it takes a pretty darn aggressive male to get any action with my ladies, they don't take any nonsense from the young males. I think Terrel is actually afraid of the females other than Nicky. And the new black male so far is only interested in one of the 3 month old neon girls (who is already pregnant I suspect by Terrel).

I used to keep them there called four eyed fish :)
Yes that's what they are :D Gosh they are funny looking but so darn cute  At that fish store thay have a huge tank/pond thing in the middle of their store and theres about 30 of them in there and when you walk up to them they all follow you around

Still not sure about the right and left gonopodium thing though....

The gonopodiumiumoniumdingthingy can move freely :) If he wants to make a female pregnant, WARNING, EXPLICIT CONTENT he goes up to her and sticks his gono into her by twisting it to the side :)

Ok so maybe the right and left gonopodium thing is only from the 4 eyed fish and similar fish..but not livebearers like swordtails, platies, mollies etc???
That must be the case :)
