Which fish are the most peaceful?
I'm interested in hearing your opinions. Whenever I hear stories of aggressive behaviors and deaths in tanks because of this, and bullying, I just want to keep species tanks. Then I guess I've heard stories about those, too.
(I have had a good experience with CPDs and White Cloud Mountain minnows together, but this wasn't planned).
I am aware that their has to be a proper M/F ratio, and environmental considerations like adequate plants.
So, what are some of the most peaceful community fish if I ever want to venture into a larger tank?
Now I have one 20g as my biggest tank, then a ten and a few nanos.
In Texas,
My tap water is
180 - or (10 GH)
7.6 - 7.8 Ph
Just pondering...

Corydoras of course :). And then probably otos. There's another but I'm having a brain fart :)

Have no experience with them yet.. but heard all good things about Lemon Tetra. I am basically looking to find peaceful fish to put alongside my cories after the barbs pushed them around a bit too much

Hatchet fish, pygmy cats, chocolate Gourami ( most dwarf gourami, but not "The dwarf gourami" ). I have always thought checker barbs and cherry barbs to be pretty tame as well.

:yahoo:
Well, it just so happens...
I've been thinking about corydoras, a LOT!
In my research I habe concluded:

c.habrosus
are cute, but I would like a less mottled look

c.hastatus
I think are the cutest, but I read that they will mix with fish that occupy the middle of the tank. I want a real bottom dweller.

Soooo, corydoras pygmaeus with the one black stripe has been my current favorite!

I don't want a bigger tank, well I do but money and time and space are an issue.
I have a 20g with 6 rainbow furcatus and hopefully a few or more--hope hope wish hope--fry to add in a couple months.

Maybe 7 cory pygmy would be perfect with them. I didn't realize they were so small until recently.
I would have to go with sand, new for me but I think I can do it. I've been holding off buying anymore gravel for the 20g, it's quite low, but I am looking at finances...

But for future future reference
I know minnows are peaceful...they won't even eat their fry. The furcatus seem peaceful enough, although they are a bit frenzied because of breeding but no real bullying of each other.

What else is peaceful?

My local fish store had a gorgeous group of lemon tetras, but I would want a lot of them in a bigger tank.

No new tanks, I'm a slave already.

Do you think my water parameters are okay for them....? I just remembered that was a concern. Also are they an easy fish, like beginners?

profile on SF for them looks like it fits, might be good to lower your PH a little bit, some tannins should do it. I've never kept them so cant comment much more. Corydoras are delightful though :)

I look forward to meeting Bisquit

Yay! I was looking for this earlier. I thought I saved this!
Thanks, I'll download it again.
Tooooo cute for words ♡
Hastatus.
What kind are yours, I forget.
How are the fry and eggs?

Palaetus / Peppered - discovered by Charles Darwin!
I lost count with the eggs, I think we have approx 7 plus the 4 fry. I expect the fry will be getting hungry soon so will have trials and tribulations learning how to feed them well.

I was looking back over that thread. How long have you had the 4 fry? Were those the first 4 in the net when you were going camping? Or did you get 4 more just recently...sorry not sure how long they take to grow. Mine are eggs for 17-22 days
Anyway, did you adjust the air line on the air stone or did it go full on? I have 4 rainbow eggs I am trying to see move into "frydom" and am getting ready to do the same cup thing. Also, I noticed your eggs were on the bottom. I have mine in with a bit of the plant they were attached to and am wondering if this is the reason for fungus?

@mbsqw1d
Wow, I just read over my last post, sorry for the barrage of questions.
Really i was just wondering about the flow from the airstone, and it seemed to have exploded from there!

Ha thats cool :D

so this current 'batch' isn't the same as from the start of the thread when I had the whole camping saga. From those four eggs I had then, only one hatched, and I didn't take it camping in the end. I added it to the main tank and said a little prayer for it...
In between then and now, I added 13 barbs and that became an issue when they started pushing the cories around. The cories never spawned when the barbs were in there. So I tore down the tank (in my sig.) and moved everything to a new tank, leaving the cories behind. This also gave me the opportunity to get some play sand for the cories which is a finer grain than what they already had. Since then, the cories are back to themselves and have been spawning for most of this week!
She sticks her eggs mostly to the glass but some end up on leaves. They can be eased off wherever with your finger, which I try to do asap before they eat them. If fertile, they'll change from white to beige after a day or two and hatch in 5-6 days.

Anyway, did you adjust the air line on the air stone or did it go full on? I have 4 rainbow eggs I am trying to see move into "frydom" and am getting ready to do the same cup thing. No haven't adjusted the airstone at all.. maybe I would if they were smaller more delicate eggs. I'm not sure what causes fungus tbh, luckily havent come across any yet. But I suppose any leaves will start to perish and attract bacteria? How far into your 17-22 days are you?
