Spot, my favorite Molly, developed a lump on his head about 4 days ago. It looked really suspicious, but he was acting fine. Yesterday I noticed his right eye was popped *way* out and looked like it would just peel right off. Gross looking. I caught him and put him in a little floating hospital tank and gave him meds for pop-eye and some other eye medicine (it was tetracycline and penicillian)

I haven't turned the tank light on, as someone is sleeping in my living room this morning, but from what I saw, he looks like he's still alive- but laying on the bottom of his little tank, on his side.

I know it's too late for him, but in case I see it again- what do I do when they get lumps on their heads? Or their eyes pop out like that?

hi m8, sorry to hear about your fish :(
as far as i understand popeye is caused by poor water quality, you may wanna check the water and filter etc and do 30/40% change. thats about all i know tbh.

If none of the other fish have popeye he might have bumped into something and then got an infection. That happened to one of my male Mollies, I think he was chasing the females. I treated with Interpet no9. :)

Hi,

It may not be too late for him. I had an angel fish with a similar problem and didn't notice it very early. I was using melafix which wasn't working for quite some time and decided to start using salt instead.

Get some tonic salts if you can put him in a tank on his own - you don't want the problem to spread to your other fish. Do lots of regular water changes with salt added as per the instructions - as big water changes as possible.

Everyone told me that it was due to poor water quality, however my water is fine and I do a test every week - it can just be caused by banging against something and getting an infection like Morgan said.

After a while my Angel's eye came completely off and after a couple of days of having no eye he died :( (this morning) He seemed to be getting better and better everyday and then when I got up this morning he was on his side on the bottom of his tank, bless him; he put up a good fight.

Anyways, my suggestion would be to use salt - it worked a treat once I'd started using it, and he only started to seem happier once I'd started using the salt method too - had almost got back to his perky self!

Good luck with your molly and keep us posted! :)

He was fine after, although his eye never went completely back to normal. He is still swimming around. :) I didn't have a hospital tank so I had to treat the whole tank.

he's in a floating tank- so no one else can get him, but he shares their water. his eye is all the way popped out and facing downwards. he's hanging out at the top of his little tank doing little barrel rolls. i'm giving him medicine for pop-eye but he's not eating it. the lump on his head looks like it's peeling too. *sigh*

it's so sad, he's my beautiful boy.... =(
