I've been treating my 30 gallon for fin rot and I've just finished treatment 2. I contacted the company and asked how many treatments is normal because I've finished treatment number 2 and there is no improvement.

He said that usually you only have to do 1 treatment but it takes weeks to see the tails getting re-growth. He suggested that I quit treatment and start introducing bacteria back into the tank.

Thing is theres no improvement and the tails seem to only be getting worse. Would it be wise to quit treatment? Maybe I should try something else?

Ugh :/

all i know is that the meds kill the bacteria in the water and that it does take weeks for the fins to grow back in. keep water quality good and you should see an improvement in a week or so. the meds will have probably knocked the cycle too. keep testing your water to keep it good.

Ok well I just did a 40% water change and added the benificial bacteria stuff to the water as well as some stress coat that the guy said to add.

I'm going to take a piece of sponge from one of my other tanks filter and put it in there. Would floating it inside a breeding net work or does it actually need to be inside the filter with flow?

I've been testing my water and so far there hasn't been any increase in NitrIte or ammonia. The guy told me though that it will rise but not all of a sudden.

Place the sponge in the filter, if you have no scaless fish add some tonic salt to the tank, also I would do a few daily salt baths on the affected fish, is there any other signs of physical illness as finrot can be a second infection, as something else could be going on like a bacteria infection.

If the sponge piece isn't placed in the filter will all the bacteria die?

Wont catching the affected fish and putting them in a salt bath only add stress to them?

I have corys so adding salt to the tank is out of the question :/
