Question About Filters

i have a trigon 190 tank which has the normal built in filter system and as be ok so far but wanted an external so bought one yesterday set up and its running my Q is do i run both filters together and if so for how long?

Run them together for 2-4 weeks, the longer the better. I have the same tank, i'm quite impressed with the filtration from the Juwel internal bio. I upgraded the powerhead and it appears to have good filtration capacity. Although its only been running for 2 weeks, the water stats have been great!

you see i havnt had a huge problem with the internal but i do have 2 BN plecs (only just been given one as my dad gave up the hobby, so one may have to be re-homed as usure if i could keep 2 due to mess lol)

I would just dump the internal, and move all the mature media into the new filter to kick start it.

You could just move some of the mature stuff over to the new filter, and leave them both running for a shorter time. Would mean you could remove the unsightly internal filter sooner!
