well my girlfriend had a male betta in her 10gal community tank for a while, and then i decided to redo my tank's stock and gave her my 2 female bettas. before i even got to do that, she purchased a purple veiltail and put her in the 10gal where the male had been for months. obviously we put the male in a breeder tank while we got him his own tank. what proceeded to happen was that she started courting him, he created several bubble nests and she got very eggy. now, we had and have no intention of mating them! we already got him his own 2.5g tank with filter and everything and he's doing great, but the purple VT girl is still VERY eggy...is she going to be ok or does she need to be spawned? i only ask because i had a VT girl before who got very eggy on a tank without any males whatsoever and she died of it...and we really dont want this purple one to die!

Thats a hard call because some females will just release the eggs when they get to eggy, or reabsorb them, but some females will become eggbound, which is almost always fatal. I've had one or 2 females die from it myself. You could wait and see what happens see if she releases the eggs on her own or try spawning her, just so she can release the eggs, with no plan on raising the babies. But both are risky, you let her sit and wait, and she could become eggbound, you let her spawn the male could tear her to shreds and possibly kill her. Hard call
