Question About Airstone For Betta

Hey all,
just picked up a dinky 2.5 gallon from walmart and it came with this air pump, air stone, and long plastic tube for the bubbles to float up. am i supposed to put some kind of filter or carbon in the tube above the airstone. I keep the temp at 74 degrees f. is that ok? Do i need to purchase some kind of filter media? or is the airstone ok as it is creating circulation and aeration?

Did it have a little platform with holes on it that goes under the gravel or sand?

Because that is a mounting plate for filter media. They sell these little plasitc cubes that say on the box in real little letters "Perfect for Undergravel Filter"
