Question about Adding Neon Tetras to my 20 gallon aquarium

I have a 20 gallon tall tank that has 1 red flame gourami, 6 corys and 4 zebra danios. I had 6, but 2 died a while back and I never replaced them. I was wondering if I could add maybe 4 neon tetras instead of adding 2 more zebra danios...

I may hear about this one way or another, but I've found much more success with tankmates when they come from the same major water system. Corys and neons (and I think most tetras) are South American, gouramis and danios are Asian. I stick to South American in mine, but could be wrong and it's all been luck. Since I've had all South American, I haven't any hassles between species, even little neons and big angels for many years.
