Hi,

I've just completed a whole dose of Interpet Internal bacteria Meds and I think that another dose will be required. I took the instructions to say that I have to do a water change on the 7th day then wait another week before commencing a second treatment. Have I got this correct or is it possible start a new treatment after the water change?

Thanks,

TT.

I would run some black carbon for aday before redosing.
Any improvement.
You can double dose in severe cases but it might knock water stats.

Well the Angel still has this pinkish wound at the base of its fin. I wouldn't say its got any worse but its not shrunk that much either. I would rather do another treatment to see if it can improve anymore but didn't want to leave it a week before re-dosing.

50% water change, run carbon for 24h, remove carbon, & do 50% wc then redose

Awesome, we're breeding antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria :D. Seems to be happening a lot with aquarium fish.

If the first dose didn't sort it, either try a double dose (which could kill some fish, and at least harm others) or a different med (after doing a water change and using carbon).

Interpet manufacture has said you can double dose in severe cases.
But I should of said only in isolation.

Because he doesn't look like he's suffering, i'm not willing to go the double dose route and run the risk of affecting the whole tank. I'll take your advice on the 50% water changes.

im glad someone else sees this happening with overuse of meds...just like in humans.
sorry to hijack, just nice to see someone else with the same point of view.
cheers

Interpet dosn't actually state what used in the med.
Antibiotics in the uk are only available throw a vet
I wouldn't of said double dose if the manufacture hadn't suggested it to a member on the forum who emailed them.
Never even told him to issolate the sick fish either when double dosing.

Looks pretty lethal when you do a search on the ingredients.
Not sure if there is an antibiotic in the med.

Interpet Anti Internal Bacteria (Fish Health Treatment Number 9)
Ingredients: Bronopol (522mg), Formaldehyde (900mg) and Benzalkonium Chloride (250mg)

ah i see. well that's good, and very responsible of your government to have those sorts of regulations.
i can go to the fish store and purchase about 10 different kinds of antibiotics right now if i wanted to. bad bad bad :(
it still allows the pathogen to build resistance to the chemicals tho. but at least they arent needlessly (in some cases) being exposed to antibiotics which would make the situation of resistant strains of pathogens all that much worse.
cheers :)
