Quartz Gravel In Tropical Community

Like the title says, will quartz gravel have an effect on the pH in my new tropical community. I have been told that it can raise pH, is this so?, and how much?. Is this an ongoing thing, or more so when the gravel is new?

And there's me thinking that quartz was totally inert and would do nothing for pH / buffering. You live & learn!

No, that's what I'm doing, and why I'm asking. I could be wrong, but was told on another forum, that it can raise your pH.

Quartz is silica, and generally contains no calcium, so I can't see why it would raise PH.

Thanks for the reply, I have been told the same by others, so I opened it, washed it, and added it to my new 200L. See how it goes.
