Hi all, i am currently cycleing my 10 gallon tank with my betta fish. I will be puting some tankmates in there when the tank is ready. But i was wondering about the quarrentine tank... if i should keep the new friends seperate for a week or so.. well my question is, this tank will be new right? its would probably be a 5.5 gal with a simple filter. does this tank also have to cycle? or will a keep be okay with the new fish? and how do i keep the querrentine tank with bateria, do i keep it running all the time, even if i only use it a few times? i am just not sure.

thanks in advance!

i was also wondering about the part where you asked whether to keep the tank going all the time, even if you do'nt really use it.. it seems like an awful waste of electricity and water, etc, especially if it gets used once a year or even never!! but then if someone gets sick, you really want them out of the main tank asap, so as not to infect the other fish!! so many questions!!
what do you guys do?

I have fish inside my q tank all the time. When I have to treat sick fish I remove those in q tank to some other tank. And treat sick fish or q new fish there. This way water is for sure cycle and it wouldn't waste any eletricity.
