When I get another tank, I will probably use the 10-gallon as a quarantine tank. But, I have a few questions about setting that up. When you don't have any new fish, do you keep a couple of your own in there to keep the bacteria at a good level? How many people quarantine like this and for how long - a few weeks?

I've not got a quarantine tank currently but can see how they are a good idea.

You can keep a small filter in a bigger tank along with the normal filter so it is cycled when you need it. You just transfer the filter to the quarantine tank as and when you want to use it.

The other option would be to just stick some media from the cycled tank into the filter on the Q tank when you need it.

Most everyone does as stated; run a spare filter or extra media in a cycled tank, set up the quar tank when needed.

For fish from a known source, meaning I know the breeder and have seen his setup I quar for 2 weeks. For an unknown source I quar for 4 weeks.

You can just take some mature filter sponge from your main tank and add it to the filter, or just run the q tank filter in the main tank for when you need it.

Reading it now. I couldn't get the link to work until I responded to yours - strange.

Thanks! That helps.
