ok, before coming on here I had no idea how important a quarantine tank was, so im thinking of using my old ghecko tank. It is just a glass aquarium, just under 2 foot long. Was just about to start cleaning it, but im unsure about what to use so that there's nothing damaging to future fish. Any suggestions?
Thanks

An algae scraper and plain water I think. No chemicals. Hopefully someone else will be along with another suggestion of safe treatment to use. You could always use aquarium salt water too.

use 1/18th - 1/20th solution of bleach (mix up 17-19 cups of water to 1 cup of bleach) wash out very well let it dry in the air. that should be ok :)

Yep, 1 part bleach to 20 parts water is the "golden" ratio that everyone will tell you :) Make sure its normal bleach though, not thick bleach.

When you've scrubbed it down and cleaned it with this solution, rinse it out. Rinse again... and again... basically keep rinsing it till you can't smell bleach any more, and then rinse it a few more times

Also, a handy tip for any calcification (white crusty residue) - I had a load on a plastic light cover. What I did was drip vinegar over it and left it for an hour. Gave it a good scrub and then rinsed it well. Got rid of most of the calcification :)

Make sure what you have is an aquarium tank before filling with water. Terrarium tanks are made of thinner glass, and do not have the strength to hold water.

oh. hmm. Im not sure what this was originally. Thank you. i do, however, have another tank in storage that was used in a petshop as an aquarium and i was going to utilise for lizards....change of plan :D
Its the little things....:p
