I run a spare sponge filter in one of my tanks so when i need to set up a quarantine tank i have a cycled filter to use.

So far ive just popped new filters back into cycle back up for the next occassion i need one.

Can you re-introduce a filter you used for a QT tank back in a main tank if youve treated meds for something? (Can it be cleaned with tank water to re-use again?)

If you used it with meds, I would run some charcoal with it first to absorb the meds. Maybe a day. Then rinse in tank water and pop it back in. If the fish had something contagious then don’t Use it again.

If you had sick fish in quarantine and successfully treated them, then any disease organisms they had will be dead, an so will any disease organisms in the quarantine tank and filter.

If you moved the treated fish into the main tank then you can move the filter in there too.

If you are concerned about diseases being introduced via the filter from the quarantine tank, wash the filter in hot (40C) soapy water and rinse really well afterwards.

Thank you both,

Wanted to know for future reference as i wasnt sure if i did treat what i could do with the filter. Now i know:good:

Cheers
