Thought you'd be best person to ask as you're in the states. I've just ordered a Python, I believe in making life as easy as possible. Also ordered a longer vac with it. Now which is better to use it with sand or gravel? I'm worried about sucking up too much sand with it. What do you think? And please do not give me a cryptic answer!! ;)

haha I seriously thought about putting my answer in code just to mess with ya!!

Your a good sport cheffi :good:

IF IT WERENT FOR PYTHON WHAT WOULD WE DO??!!! GOD SAVE THE PYTHON!!!! :D

I've used with both, sand and gravel and each has its pluses and down falls. Gravel, depending on size can glogg the tubes if your not paying attention, sand can get sucked up the same way, it's all about paying attention to what your doing.

I find if the outlet side is down on the ground say going out the door then the suction is stronger and can pick up sand easier then if it were going uphill into the sink.

I have to go so i'll try and post more later, good luck & cya later

If it helps any it will be going out of the french doors into the garden and either into the flowers or down the drain by the outside tap which happens to be one of only two taps which don't have softened water. I can't wait to play with my Python ;)

Hi cheffi

some more opinions about substrate

Good read tanks. I have bought silver sand to go in but was just having second thoughts. I suppose tbh that if you do syphon it off a bit too much it doesn't take much to put some back?

IMO I really like the look of sand, its fairly easy and cheep to replace. Brewyn has gone to the sandy side and I think it looks very well in his tanks. I have crushed coral in my mbuna set up, I would have liked to use sand but I'm using the lime in the crushed coral to beef up the ph in the water, my tap water is 7.0 and the coral has bumped this well over eight.

I've never really lost enough sand to freak out about it and paying for the ECO COMPLETE as pricey as it is, i'm glad that I never end up sucking up too much.
