May get a small group of these, although they're quite pricey.

Any special care requirements I need to know about?

Can the be bred?

Ta.

Do you have a latin name? Due to the number of hybrids available, I'd make sure you get a positive ID before you shell out any cash.

It's probably going to be a riverine species, so there should be nothing special regarding care - neutral water, water temp 25C, plenty of swimming space and hiding room. Feeding will probably be easy and you'll be able to feed small pellets, tetra prima, flake and frozen/live foods.

Hi martin, thanks for the info. They're definately pyjama's. My tank is around 7.2-7.5 would that be ok? How many could I house in a 4ft 260 litre tank?

I have four in my Rio240, I could see six working if there are plenty of hidey holes amongst bogwood and rocks, depending on other bottom dwellers. Minimum of 24C, lots of current (I have my Ehiem 2078 ~1100lph and Juwel internal ~1000lph filters, thinking about adding my Koralia1 powerhead too). Alkaline water is pretty essential for these synos, if the pH drops below 7 their fins are known to "melt." They are supposed to be at the very social end of the syno spectrum, but my four squabble from time to time, usually tolerate each other. Might not help there is quite a size difference in the group, ranging from a lean ~6cm to a fatty ~11cm!:fun:

Lol, cheers mate.

Would they mix ok with cories?

The stocking would be:

2 juvi firemouths
15 harlequin rasboras
6 bronze corydoras
? Pj cats

260 litre, 4ft bow front tank, 25c, ph around 7.5, tetratec ex1200 and fluval 305. Planted with wood and rocks. Sand substrate.

Any good?

I've never had my ones with Corydoras, they currently share with four ~9cm Hoplos; one ~7cm Hypoptopoma spp.; one ~7cm Humphead Glassfish; nineteen(?) 1-7cm Rabbit Snails; one ~7cm Golden Wonder Killifish; one ~8cm African Butterfly Fish (last two stick to the calmer sections of surface water). They did share with my group of nine ~3-7cm Synodontis nigriventris for a while last year and things were fine once there was enough hiding places for everyone in my 48x12x15, plus my tiny ~4cm Microsynodontis polli is still around.

Chances are they would mix fine with Corydoras, I'd be very surprsied if they bothered the Harlequins and Pyjamas can take the "heat" of Lionhead Cichlids, so I'd imagine typical "all bark no bite" behaviour of Firemouths would not bother them at all.

Try and get at least four (similar size would help, I bought wildly different sizes for just £25 for the whole group), possibly five. One of the major identification marks of true Pyjamas are that all barbels are branched, most synos have unbranched outer barbels.

They would probably be my last addition then as they £13 a piece at my lfs. Quite orange when juvi, very nice indeed. :)

Sorry, but I still have no idea what fish you are talking about! I personally have never heard of a pyjama syno.

Ah OK, thanks Steve :good:
