got a trigon 350 which is a corner tank so the floor shape gives debatably less room than a standard rectangular tank of the same size.

it's roughly 92 us g

sadly I'm re-homing one of the inhabitants in the next few days and will be left with an Oscar, a chocolate albino common plec and a common syno current sizes are respectively 10", 6", 6"

The tanks well filtered with 3 decent externals and 2 little internals that are basically used for polishing the water with floss and so we always have mature filters reading for the hospital tank should we need it.

It seems Oscar will not tolerate any other free swimming companions, but he has shown no aggression to the bottom dwellers so far, before adding any fish we will be waiting a good few months to see if he decides he's going to turn on them once Polly has gone.

I think I have room for 1/2 more bottom dwellers (obviously depending on what they are) it's gotta be something that's around 6" when it goes in so it's big enough not to get eaten but i don't want something that's gonna get massive as they common plec is gonna be plenty enough big fish for that tank!

I've a few fancy plecs that I could go for, but I was wondering if there would be any other catfish or other bottom dwellers that are a bit more unusual that I could have in there?

suggestions please!

maybe a hoplo? (i suggest these b/c i really want one ;) ) perhaps consider rescuing an overgrown gold CAE?

as for an oddball suggestion, a birchir could be an option but are generally advised against housing with plecs. one of the medium sized spiney eels might also be a possibility. perhaps consider an African Brown Knife? (someone else back me up or disagree on that.) a Black Ghost Knife might could be an option too, but that seems to be larger fish than you were really interested in.

the red-tailed black shark might be an option too. based on anecdote, an adult one of those might be aggressive enough to face down an oscar but spend enough time surface-hopping to escape most of the oscars attention.

also, i hate to bring this up but you might want to supervise how well your oscar and your syno get along before adding another non-pleco to the mix. plecs are generally pretty good at not attracting attention, but a syno might spend more time twitching around the bottom of the tank. if the oscar decides to start chasing the syno now that the parrot is gone, then you might just have a fish who can't have friends.

yeah i absolutely agree on that last point, don't worry i'm not gonna rush anything. Pol's going on sunday ( :-( ) and I'm just gonna keep a very close eye on the tank over the next month or so, see if Oscar turns his attention elsewhere or if he settles back down. I do accept I may find that Oscar can't have any tankmates at all, if this is the case I will try to find a suitable home for him, if I can't do so I fully accept that as I bought him I have to take responsibility and look after him even if it means he has the biggest tank in the house all to himself.

hoplos don't do much for me, nor do birchirs or RTBS's

an ABK would be cool if that could work out, I don't think the tank's big enough for a BGK tbh. I don't want it rammed full.

hmmm hadn't considered spiney eels, literally know nothing about them, which ones in particular could work, I'll google them.

Thanks for the help

hmmm don't think an ABK would work, my research shows they like a pH lower than ours, the tanks about 7.2-7.4 :/

Hoplo's are really nice fish, mine is one of my faves in the tank but it is quite hard to find them available at a decent size. An LFS close to me has a tank full of them at the minute but they are all only about 1 1/2" long.

I have had mine for quite a few months now and it has grown a little bit but wouldn't be able to hold it's own against your monsters!!!

it's a shame you couldn't get a Tandan catfish. Shovelnose catfish perhaps, Although I have never owned a oscar and not sure their dendencies of attack. Hoplo is a good suggestion even if you cannot find anything else. Perhaps a larger spiny eel?...or would the oscar do a eel spaghetti with it?

don't shovelnoses get massive..... would have thought they'd be too big for the tank?

lima shovelnose catfish get to 12", so not too bad. :good:

Going back to what pica said:
An ABK would be fine in that PH, I have one in a PH of around 7.5 and its doin great. Its a very nervous fish though and not often seen as it hides away in its caves most of the time. They dont grow as big as other knives, so I don't know if it could hold it own with an oscar.
As for a RTBS, I don't know what that would be like, mine is fairly aggressive but it wont grow that big, so probably not best with a bullying oscar - I have seen them kept with fahaka puffers perfectly happily though, so i guess it may vary.

I guess i probably haven't been very helpful, but i just thought I would let you know.

cool thanks for the thoughts, i've always liked shovelnoses so that could possibly work.

will keep cracking on with my research and tank watching
