Hi

Just started my fresh water tank. I just bought a few plants for the tank and just plugged them into the gravel:p Do i need subtrate for them to survive and grow??

Btw, wat other tests do i have to do besides PH??? I have put water conditioner in tank do i need to test/add anything else into tank??

thanks

The normal test are Ph, Nitrate, Nitrite and Ammonia. You can buy a master test kit with all these tests in. As for the plants, as long as they have heat and light they should be ok. We added some Plantgro to ours when we first set up the tank but they haven't really needed it. Some plants grow quite quickly and may need to be trimmed back a bit, as we've learnt!

for better growth you could get some laterite to go mixed in with the gravel ? or a special under gravel substrate like eco complete
