hello everyone
i got some new plants the other week, and now after putting them into my tank, two of my fish have died withing 3 days. is there something i should have done to the plants before i planted them, like sterilize them or something. and if so how would i have gone about doing this. that way i can take them out, and sterilize them before i lose all of my fish and become really mad.

I doubt if its anything to do with the plants, are you sure they were aquatic plants?

What are the water parameters in the tank and is this tank cycled?

Aquatic plants will not cause fish deaths on introduction to a tank and people will not normally sterilise them either.

yes im sure they are aquatic plants, they came from my lfs. parameters are fine, nitrate-0 nitrite-0 ammonia-0 and yes tank is cycled, its been running for 3 years. i just wasnt sure if there was some way a parasite could have been brought in with the plants.

Anything is possible of course, perhaps if the plants came with water from the lfs and you introduced this into the tank then there is always the possibility of transferring disease, but a good idea is always to rinse any bought plants before you introduce them to the tank to remove any parasites or snails, this is usually sufficient.
