Purpley Blue Cotton Algae Type Stuff

Im having problems with purple/blue coloured cotton like algae growing on plants and rocks. i clean them every month or so but it just grows back and takes over.

i have a hard/alkaline water tank. Is there any fish that would eat this algae or another way i could keep it away...??

Post your tank stats........do you have any test kits to show your water parameters? until we know that, its hard to give advice but it sounds like some form of cyanobacteria or BGA.
