so first off my tank, doesnt have a complete cover. The front portion of the tank has a glass cover for about 70% of it, the back portion where i have the filter and heater in the tank are open air.

However, twice i have foudn my purple spotted gudgeon on the floor assumingly dead, and about 5-6 feet in front of the tank(how the hell did he make it over there?)

Thing is, i have found him twice this way after getting home, so who knows how long he was dessicating out on the carpet(minutes?hours?), but i put him back in and bam he shoots back to life, what a survivor.

I cant figure out why its happening or how he is cover such distance in the oppossite direction of the slight openings on the tank? it appears my knight goby and krib have formed an alliance to torture him though.

Your first mistake! Gobies and sleepers are notorious jumpers.

Indeed. But you're pushing your luck here. Even if can't buy a hood, you should be able to get some glass cut to size at a local glazier. I had one done for a tank 24 inches by 8 inches, and that piece of glass cost about £8. If you shop around you can probably get a glass pane for much less than that. Some shops sell "condensation trays" that fit most of the standard fish tanks. These are cheap, flexible and easy to install. Probably better than glass, to be honest. Certainly lighter.

Cheers, Neale

ya got hard plastic covering the open areas now, learned my lesson. I still cant figure out how he got so much distance in the opposite direction of where he could have gotten out though. Look wise PSG are alright but he acts like a minature snakehead, strikes with such ferocity at his food, quite the personality.
