Hi everyone,

I purchased a pure percula clown fish yesturday that is absolutely beautiful. Lots of black and white and small areas of briliant orange. Only problem is when they guy took him out of the tank at the LFS the little guy jumped out of the net twice and landed on the hardwood floor. Now he is not doing well, swimming up and down the corner of the tank and in circles. This morning he is just moving back and forth up in the top corner of the tank. Is this common for this fish or could it have hit its head hard on the ground during the two falls. What do you think I should do? Will the fish probably die?

Thanks

well I would be worried if he wasn't eating... then there is really something wrong. It would be terrible if the little guy died, but I think you should inform the salty shop asap that he is acting strange and if the worst does happen, then you go back and demand a refund or store credit as obv the attendent was not being careful enough with the little guy.

I guess I should make sure too... are all your water stats in order? Do you have enough O2/CO2 exchange? not accusing you of anything, but this is what they will ask if you try to return the fish.

All my water stats are perfect. The only thing that slightly worries me is that I am keepin the Salinity level at 1.0265 almost 1.027. Could this be stressing him? Also, I am not sure about the O2 levels. I do have a sump with a skimmer and bubble trap and plenty of water flow in the tank. Not sure about O2 levels though. I would like to think that between the sump, protein skimmer, return pump and 1200gph power hear there would be plenty of O2 in the water. I do have a yellow tang that is happier than a clam. Do you think that a fish could get brain injury from falling like that?

Is there a lot of surface movement? If there isn't then you need to get some water movement on the surface, and that will aid in the O2 exchange, is he gasping at the surface?

No, I don't think that it is the O2. There is plenty of movement on the water surface. Now he is kinda just floating and moving his arm fins. He almost looks like he is seizureing on the surface. I could kill that LFS guy!!

Is he eating?

Definately notify the LFS. Are there any marks on his body at all? Red spots, white spots, etc...
No he will no eat anything. He is now on his side at the top just moving his mouth and his front fin. Looks like he is on his way out soon. Almost trying to keep himself stable with one fin.
