hi to everyone, got a 240 tank with 5 parrot fish,3 oscars, and cat fish. the water has very quickly got very green ie last day or so. we have had the tank going for about 6 weeks so far with a slight nitrate problem at first but all settled down now. is there anything i can do to check the pump? i put all the filter levels together as detailed in the filter pack. bit stumped really

Hi there, do you have a test kit or have any water stats from the tank?

Am i right in thinking that this is a 240 Litre setup (as opposed to a 240 Gallons)
If so I'm afraid the tank is very overstocked, and once those fish start to mature, there will be a lot of aggression,

A 240Litre tank is just about adequate for one Oscar, without tankmates, Oscars grown very big, incredibly quickly and are one of the messiest fish around, requiring huge external filters to keep the water in a stable condition.

Again if the tank is only 240Litres then I would really be checking the water stats ASAP and in all honesty rehoming some of the fish to bigger tanks,
The green water issue and the stocking listed gives a very good indication that there are too many toxins in the water,

Also the green water can also be enhanced when the tank is in a room that gets a lot of natural light or if the tank lightning is left on for more than around 8 hours per day

Green water is the product of sunlight (or very bright tank lights) and the presence of ammonia (your tank is way overstocked).

In order for the green water to clear you are going to have to rehome some of your fish. I know it seems that the tank looks empty, but it really isnt. 1 oscar needs that tank all by itself, so I agree with Davo86.
