Hi, I got given a Vecton V2 steriliser but I can’t figure out how to get water pumping properly through it. I’d really like to get it going to sort out the algae in my freshwater tank.

The tank is filtered with a Fluval U3 which - in theory - should have a strong enough output at 600l/ per hour (I think that’s what it says in the manual) but I just couldn’t get it pumping through the tubes and into the Vecton unit, then back up again.

Is there some trick I’m missing? I’ve watched about a million YouTube vids and I can’t see what I’m getting wrong.

Do I ideally need a separate pump for the Vecton unit? I’m wondering what the lowest flow rate I could get away with would be. My honey gourami is not a fan of too much water agitation.

Do you have green water or algae growing on surfaces?
UV sterilisers won't do anything for growing algae. They will clear green water which is unicellullar floating algae, but this is not common in tanks and fairly easy to deal with.

Ohhh, I have algae on surfaces, not green water. I guess I could just unleash some amano shrimp to help, right? And sell the Vecton unit.

Green spot algae is the algae found in any healthy tank, If it grows on surfaces I let it take over, in the long run it becomes beautiful.

If it grows on plants... That's another story.
