hi,

anyone good with pumps ?

I want to pump water from buckets in my bathroom   up flight of stairs and into the tank.   (9 steps on stairs)

I also want to empty 1/2 the water from the tank down the stairs 42 feet to bathroom

Total distance around 42 feet (15 mitres ish )

what ya think

what pump power would i need ??????????

why not just run a hose from an available  faucet to fill the  buckets upstairs or  directly into the tank.  Be sure to use a declorinator for water added to the tank or add the dechlorinator to the tank and then add water to the tank.

You can siphon water from the tank using the same hose or better yet a python siphon tube attached to a long hose and also use the python tube to clean the substrate.

Hi Clivealive,

For emptying the tank just simply use gravity, get it started and watch it go, if we are talking the height difference over ground and first floor then we are looking at at least 3metres drop. It will be as quick as the diameter of the pipe you are using.
Now for pumping water up, How much water you are talking about? If for example you need to move 100 litres of water is it really necessary? I would agree with fishmanic, Why not run a hosepipe upstairs to a large bucket upstairs, add your water treatment and away you go. It would be far the simplest and most cost effective method. I use a 210litre bucket add a hose connection to my shower and let it rip. 20 minutes later I have a full bucket of water ready to top my tank back up, I also add a thermometer to the bucket so I ensure I get exactly the same temperature for the water being added. It is also way more accurate for adding the water treatment as I have a large volume to treat rather than several dozen small buckets.

Hope this helps.
Richard.

talking 300 litres plus when doing 50% change.   main issue is not lifting buckets from floor to tank at highest point. and ideally not carrying up or down stairs

** not bother how quicky it fills the tank withing reason

hmmmm water from shower could be a possible if i can get the right connection  maybe . could get right temp on dials them add  tubing hmmmm

I am actually just purchasing this bad boy to pump water from my RO reservoir in my basement upstairs through the kitchen and into the living room....haven't decided how I am going to remove water yet...probably a smaller powerhead into the kitchen sink.

I'm actually not really sure, I will let you know how this works once I get it. I'm really hoping it's enough power for what I need.

Just wanted to update you, I got my pump today and tested it out, and it has plenty of power for my purposes...I'm actually probably going to need to slow it up a little for my smaller tanks or the substrate will go everywhere. It is going up about the same height I would guess that yours would, but probably a slightly shorter distance. But, they make a 1/4 hp one as well that I think would have plenty of getup for you, and some to spare.
