Hey all, ive been finding bits of rock for the tank im gonna have together (at some stage, time/money allowing) ive got a few decent sized chunks of dead corals ive found along deserted coast over here on kangaroo island including one whole coral that looks like it was a brain coral, big sphere about the size of a mini basketball. anyways on one trip to go looking for some i came across a rocky beach that is almost impossible to get to due to terrain ( and shotgun wielding hermit who lives in a nearby valley) anwyas i found loads of volcanic rock washed up, pumice stone exactly like the stuff you get in shops for your skin, heaps of big pieces, i did the vinegar test and it didnt smoke or hiss in the slightest, however it doesnt sink! i held it under for awhile and loads of air comes out but i didnt bother stuffing around with it too much. was thinking of drilling heaps of small holes throughout it to free up some of the trapped air and make it more porous, would be good if i could use this stuff seeing as i have a virtually unlimited supply of it from this place. what do you guys think?
on a seperate note, water temp here in a freshwater tank sits at about 17-19degreesC in winter , now to avoid using a chiller anymore for a coldwater marine tank i have an old barfridge out the back shed i got for 30$ that works great which is never gonna see another cold beer in it as i got a new good one. so, bar fridge with holes drilled in it for tube with water flowing through it any good at cooling, is there a DIY chiller thread or something? or has someone done simmilar things?
